Turkey denies secret 'Syria bargain' with Russia

On Monday, Ankara denied any secret deal with Russia regarding the future of Syria, Western media outlets reported.

"That's not how we see it. That is not how we make deals. We don't see any connection," a senior Turkish Foreign Ministry official said.

Earlier, a number of Western media outlets suggested that since relations between Moscow and Ankara improved, it is possible that Turkey has agreed to assist Russia in Aleppo while Moscow promised not to hinder operations carried out by the Turkish military in northern Syria.

"The Russians initially suggested that Turkey, Russia, and Iran come together to resolve the situation in Aleppo. This may have been expanded to include other parts of Syria," the Turkish Foreign Minister, Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, said, expressing hope that the talks would provide an impetus.

"This is not a miracle meeting. It will give a good opportunity to understand what is happening," the Turkish Minister added.

The meeting between the Russian, Iranian, and Turkish Foreign Ministers – Sergey Lavrov, Mohammad Javad Zarif, and Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, will take place on Tuesday in Moscow. The parties intend to discuss the situation in Syria, including Aleppo.
