Turkish Foreign Minister says Ankara is ready to work with Russia on a ceasefire in Syria

According to Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu, Turkey is “more than ready” to work with Russia on coordinating a ceasefire in Syria and delivering humanitarian aid if the Kremlin is also willing to do so, Reuters reported.

"We discussed the issues of a ceasefire and humanitarian aid with our Iranian counterpart Mr. Zarif yesterday [Iranian Foreign Foreign Minister Javad Zarif]. After the normalization of our relations we are discussing the same issues with our ally Russia," Cavusoglu told reporters in Ankara.

"We have to try harder for a ceasefire and political resolution. If Russia is prepared to cooperate with us on the ceasefire and humanitarian aid, we are more than ready,” he added.

A fragile coordinated ceasefire by the US and Russia recently fell apart after the US-led coalition bombed Syrian government positions and Russian aircraft bombed a humanitarian convoy in the war-torn country. The Syrian government, with the aid of Russia, have stepped up the offensive in Aleppo since the ceasefire fell apart.
