Yanukovych case opposing EU sanctions against his family begins in Luxembourg

Hearings in the case of former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych and his elder son Alexander have begun in the EU Court in Luxembourg, Rosbalt reported. The Yanukovychs are challenging the sanctions that have been imposed against them by the European Union.

The restrictive measures placed on the former Ukrainian President and his son are supported by the lawyers of the EU Council and the European Commission.

"The meeting started after a ten-minute delay, but everything went according to plan. A part of the hearing is held behind closed doors," one source told RIA Novosti.

The date of the deliverance of the final verdict is yet to be determined.

The Yanukovychs are challenging not only the initial decision to impose sanctions against them in March of 2014, but also the subsequent decision to extend the sanctions.
