Russian diplomat summoned to the US State Department for explanations

Wess Mitchel, the Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs summoned Dmitry Zhirnov, the charge d'affaires of Russia in the United States, to answer for the Russian propaganda in social networks. Washington regards this as Moscow's interference in the internal affairs of the USA, reported in Twitter Heather Nauert, the State Department spokeswoman.

"Assistant Secretary Mitchell convoked Russian Chargé Zhirnov to answer for the Kremlin’s attempts to use social media accounts to promote violent and divisive causes in the U.S. – we will not tolerate this aggressive interference,” Nauert wrote.

The US President Donald Trump ranked Russia and China as countries that interfere in the internal affairs of the United States.

A few days ago, US National Intelligence Director Dan Coates and FBI Director Christopher Wray warned of the ongoing Russian disinformation campaigns at a joint press conference.
