Official from the separatist DPR accused Russia of betrayal

In his Facebook post, the former leader of the Central Executive Committee (CEC) of the so-called Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), Roman Lyagin said that Russia had betrayed the separatists in the Donbas.

"I am the organizer of the referendum and responsible for the failure of the Ukrainian elections in 2014. I did what I did according to my beliefs, sincerely and with full dedication! Because I believed in Russia, which will not leave us. But it [Russia] left us to the mercy of fate! Thousands of people are slaughtered like cattle for a television picture," Lyagin wrote.

He stressed that the separatist-held territories of the Donbas will not be "attached" to Russia following the Crimea’s example.

"Donbass is not destined to go the way of the Crimea! We were betrayed and sold! What did they fight for and die for!?... Let everyone answer for himself,” Lyagin writes. He also believes that the separatist-held territories will return to the control of Ukraine.

"And what, everything was in vain!? Yes, the Russia that we imagined was not like this and maybe had never been. For the return to normal life, the resumption of business, it is inevitable to return to Ukraine! Donbass is Ukraine!" summed up Lyagin.
