Ukraine urges Macedonia to recognize Holodomor as the genocide of Ukrainian people

The press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs released a statement on the visit of Foreign Affairs Minister Pavlo Klimkin to Macedonia. "Klimkin has requested [Talat] Xhaferi to consider the recognition of the Holodomor of 1932-1933 as the genocide of Ukrainian people," the statement said.

During the meeting with the Speaker of the Assembly (Parliament) of Macedonia, Talat Xhaferi, the parties discussed issues of inter-parliamentary cooperation between the Verkhovna Rada and the Macedonian Parliament.

Klimkin also met with the Ukrainian Society of Lesya Ukrainka in the Republic of Macedonia and laid flowers on the monument to Taras Shevchenko.

In February, during a meeting with the Head of the Austrian National Council (Parliament), Wolfgang Sobotka, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko also called on Austria to recognize the Holodomor as genocide.
