Ukrainian military captured Russian citizen fighting for separatists in the Donbas

In the Donbas, soldiers of Ukraine’s 57th Motorized Brigade captured a private soldier who held a Russian Federation citizen’s passport and a temporary identification card provided on February 5 by the so-called Donetsk People’s Republic, as  reported by the press service of the Brigade this their Facebook page.

“The soldiers of the 57th brigade captured a militant of an illegal armed group who is a citizen of the Russian Federation. Thus, the personnel of the brigade once again confirmed their high professionalism and readiness to carry out the tasks entrusted to them, and the world community is shown once again who is fighting on the side of illegal armed groups and what the so-called ‘Civil War’ in Ukraine is all about,” the post reads.

There were no details given about the circumstances of the 37-year-old Russian militant’s detention.

On Saturday, March 2, US State Department Special Representative for Ukraine Kurt Volker said that the Russian DPR and LPR should be disbanded because their existence  contradicts the constitution of Ukraine. Kurt Volker said that the self-proclaimed LPR and DPR were created by Russia “to camouflage” its role in the conflict and called for their dissolution. The U.S. special representative said that the role of the republics is basically for “speculation on the black market.”
