Ukrainian Naftogaz prepares new lawsuit against Gazprom

Executive Officer of the Ukrainian gas company Naftogaz Yuriy Vitrenko reported on his Facebook page that Naftogaz has started preparing a new lawsuit against Russian gas giant Gazprom.

Vitrenko made this comment after the negotiations between Russia, Ukraine, and the European Commission in Brussels on the future of the Russian gas transit through Ukrainian territory.

"No agreements were made. But I did not waste time because I worked on the claims against Gazprom in the new arbitration process," Vitrenko wrote.

The current 10-year contract for gas transit from Russia to Europe through Ukraine expires at the end of 2019.

The talks on the gas between Ukraine, Russia, and the EU were held on October 28 in Brussels. They lasted about 80 minutes. In addition to transit, the direct Russian gas supplies to Ukraine, which Kyiv refused in 2015, was also discussed, but the parties did not agree on this matter. A new round of gas talks between the Gazrpom and Naftogaz will be held at the end of November.
