US Navy destroyer approaches Syria

The U.S. destroyer USS Donald Cook came within 100 km of the Syrian city of Tartus, reported the Turkish newspaper Hurriyet.

A Russian naval base is located in this city. According to the newspaper, Russian military aircraft flew over the U.S. destroyer at least four times.

Earlier, USS Donald Cook, which is equipped with 60 Tomahawk cruise missiles, left the port of Larnaca in Cyprus and is now near Syrian territorial waters.

On Monday, April 9, U.S. President Donald Trump said that within the next 24-48 hours, Washington would make a decision about how to respond to a chemical attack in the Syrian city of Douma. The American leader did not rule out military action.

70 people were killed as a result of the use of toxic gas in the Syrian city of Douma. The United States considers Russia responsible for the Syrian government army’s use of chemical weapons.
