Russian Foreign Minister: Putin received invitation to visit the USA

During the press-conference at the UN, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Russian President Vladimir Putin received an invitation to visit the USA, RBC news agency reports.

“President Putin received an invitation from President Trump. President Trump was also invited to visit Russia,” the minister said.

Lavrov added that the dates are still unknown, and it is necessary to wait for suggestions and willingness from both sides.

The meeting between Putin and Trump took place on July 16 in Helsinki. The leaders of the two states had a two-hour conversation behind closed doors. No details of the meeting were disclosed. The Democratic congressional leaders of the United States requested a translator for the talks; however, the Republicans opposed the idea. It is known that the leaders discussed the situation in Syria and the status of bilateral relations.

According to President Putin, the meeting with the US leader was quite useful. He said that nobody expected to resolve all controversial issues in two hours. Trump, in his turn, said that his meeting with President Putin was “one of the best” meetings.

Putin said in late July that Russian authorities had sent Trump an invitation to visit Moscow. He added that he is himself ready to go to Washington if the American side provides “appropriate working conditions”.
