Media: Merkel and Putin spoke about Syria and peacekeeping mission in Donbas

German Chancellor Angela Merkel proposed to Russian President Vladimir Putin to create an international administration and introduce 40,000 peacekeepers in the territories of the Donbas which are not under Ukraine’s control, reported the editor-in-chief of the Russian radio station Echo of Moscow, Alexei Venediktov, on his radio channel.

According to him, Putin received a detailed plan for the introduction of the peacekeeping units in the Donbas. Venediktov did not report any other details or results of the meeting.

In addition, Germany commented on the results of possible four-way talks on Syria between Germany, Turkey, France and Russia.

"This was, in fact, the topic of negotiations with Putin in Meseberg. The decision was made to prepare for the possibility of such a meeting. However, I cannot name the date for this meeting, "said German government official Steffen Seibert.

According to the press secretary, such negotiations could be appropriate, but should be well prepared, informed the chancellor. In addition, according to the German side, at this time everybody first should seek peace in Syria.

Earlier, Kremlin commented on the meeting of Angela Merkel and Vladimir Putin.
