Poroshenko summons emergency Council of Presidents of Ukraine and Poland because of tensions between the countries

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko decided to initiate a meeting of the Consultative Committee of the Presidents of Ukraine and Poland in order to avoid the escalation of the conflict between the countries.

As the press secretary of the President Svyatoslav Tsegolko said, statements have been made on both sides that have caused concern.

“To strengthen the strategic partnership between Ukraine and the Republic of Poland, and to avoid further escalation of tension, realizing the need to resolve any problematic issues in bilateral relations exclusively in a civilized European way, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko initiated an emergency meeting of the Consultative Committee of the Presidents of Ukraine and Poland,” he wrote on Facebook.

Tsegolko reiterated the statement of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry that “in the pro-European politics of the Ukrainian government there are no politicians who would have anti-Polish sentiments.”

Poland began the procedure for banning Ukrainian officials from entering the country who are blocking the exhumation of Polish victims in Ukraine. According to the Minister for Foreign Affairs of the country,Witold Waszczykowski, the procedure has already begun for one person – Ukrainian historian Vyatrovich. Vyatrovich previously stated that in Poland they continue to aggravate the situation and prolong the process of settling historical issues.
