Putin claims he offered to sell newest Russian weapons to Trump

Russian President Vladimir Putin, during his speech at the plenary session of World Economic Forum 2019, said that Russia offered to sell its hypersonic weapons to the United States.

Putin noted that, during the last meeting with American partners in Osaka, the US raised a question "how to include newest Russian modern weapons, including hypersonic missile systems, into General agreements."

"This means that no country in the world, including the United States, have such a weapon," Putin said. He also noted that he told Trump that Russia could sell these newest weapons to the US.

"I said to Donald [Trump]: do you want us to sell these weapons to you? So, we could balance everything at once. They mentioned that soon they would produce a similar weapon. Well, they probably would. But what is the reason to spend money on its production, when we have already done it? Maybe we can also get something from them without detriment to our security," said Putin.

In August, the Pentagon, speaking about the timing of producing hypersonic weapons, noted that it is "a matter of a couple of years."
