US Deputy Defense Secretary: Putin's threats over missile defense shield are problematic

As was stated by the U.S. Deputy Secretary of Defense, Robert Work, the Pentagon is concerned about statements made by Russian President Vladimir Putin regarding threats against Russia due to the placement of U.S. ABM systems, The Wall Street Journal reports.

“We would like to ask Russia to think about what they are saying, because we intend to cooperate with them wherever possible. However, such threats are highly problematic and of serious concern to us,” Work said.

Jamala to visit Canada

Ukrainian Singer of Crimean Tatar origin Jamala (real name Susana Jamaladinova), the winner of Eurovision-2016 contest, was invited to visit Canada, russianweek.ca reported.

Russian Navy ships seen near Latvian border

The National Armed Forces of Latvia (NAF) have noticed the presence of Russian naval ships near Latvian territorial waters on several occasions over the last few days, Rosbalt reported, with reference to the NAF’s Twitter account.

On Monday, the Russian Frigate Boikiy was seen near the Latvian economic zone, and on Sunday a NATO patrol aircraft spotted a Russian Il-76 cargo plane near the border.

Russia wants to purchase license to manufacture Ukrainian Antonov aircraft

The Russian Minister Industry and Trade, Denis Manturov, said that his department is ready to meet with the Ukrainian company Antonov in order to discuss purchasing a license to manufacture the An-140 aircraft in Russia, RBC-Ukraine reported.

At a government meeting, Manturov explained that the Aviacor plant in Samara continues to deliver An-140 aircraft to the Russian Defense Ministry. The aircraft were assembled from left over parts at the plant, as the supply of new parts was discontinued …
