Kyiv: Ukraine is the leader in honey production in Europe and fifth in the world

Ukraine occupies fifth place in the world in terms of honey production and is the leader of honey production in Europe, the press service of the vice-premier on issues of European integration Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze wrote on Facebook.

“Our country produces more than 100 thousand tons per year, that is 6% of the honey produced in the world. Currently, in Ukraine there are about 400 thousand beekeepers, which account for 4 million hives,” the report says.

It is noted that the main producers of honey are eight areas: Vinnytsia, Donetsk, Dnepropetrovsk, Zaporizhia, Zhytomyr, Mykolaiv, Poltava and Kirovograd, which produce 70% of Ukrainian honey, supplied to 35 countries.

It is reported that most of the honey that is produced in Ukraine is supplied to the US, Germany, Poland, and France, altogether 35 countries.

“Just counting EU countries, 50 thousand tons (of which more than 5 thousand tons were part of the duty-free quota), were delivered,” stated the office of the vice-premier.
