  • Maduro asks Russia for more soldiers and protection from sanctions

    The contingent of Russian soldiers in Venezuela may be enlarged, Venezuelan Foreign Minister Jorge Arreaza announced on Monday after a visit to Moscow where he met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

    The Organization of American States (OAS) has accused Russia of making a military incursion in Venezuela.

    Two Russian military transport planes landed in Venezuela on 23 March, according to flight-tracking data from CivMilAir. The Venezuelan news outlet El Nacional reports that the planes were transporting a group of Russian soldiers led by Colonel General Vasily Tonkoshkurov.

  • Media: Russia increases oil shipments to the US amid Venezuela crisis

    At least nine tankers delivered 3.19 million barrels of Russian oil and oil products to American ports during the week between 23 February and 1 March, RBC news agency reports, citing a notice sent out by the investment bank Caracas Capital Markets, which specializes in Venezuela.     Nordwind Airlines' Boeing-777 flew from Moscow to Caracas on March 1, then traveled to Uganda and Zanzibar and returned to Venezuela on March 4, wrote Novaya Gazeta with reference to Flightradar24.

    TASS reports that Venezuela accepted a shipment with medicine and medical equipment that was sent through the World Health Organization by Russia as humanitarian aid.
