Germany hands over to Russia the 'cocaine case' suspect

Germany handed over to Russia Andres Kovalchuk, a businessman who has been charged with organizing cocaine smuggling from Argentina through diplomatic channels, reported Vladimir Zherebenkov, his lawyer.

The laywer said that Kovalchuk is in Matrosskaya Tishina detention center and refuses to answer investigators' questions.

Zherebenkov did not specify the exact time his client was extradited.

Nevertheless, Kovalchuk's lawyers in Germany appealed against the authorities' decision to extradite since they were not notified of this intention.

On February 22, 389 kg of cocaine packed in large suitcases was found at the embassy school. According to the Ministry of Security of Argentina, the cocaine was replaced with flour and the luggage was flown to Russia on the place that took Security Council Nikolai Patrushev to Buenos Aires for an official visit.

Two Russians were detained in Argentina; another suspect,  Kovalchuk, was arrested in Germany, and three defendants, Vladimir Kalmykov, Ishtimir Khudzhamov and Ali Abyanov, were arrested in Russia.

According to the investigation, cocaine Kovalchuk handed over the cocaine for storage in the backyard of the Russian embassy school. Kovalchuk himself claims that he bought only coffee in Argentina.
