Russia condemns assassination attempt on Venezuelan President Maduro

Russia strongly condemns the assassination attempt on Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, announced the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.

“We strongly condemn the assassination attempt committed on August 4 on the President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, as a result of which 7 people were injured. The use of terrorist methods is categorically unacceptable as tools of political struggle,” reads a statement on the website of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

As noted in the statement, these acts are aimed at “destabilizing the situation in the country” after the congress of the Socialist Unity Party, which was followed by steps to restore the country’s economy.

“We are convinced that political reconciliation must be carried out exclusively in a peaceful and democratic way. We express our solidarity with the people of Venezuela and wish a speedy recovery to the people injured in the terrorist attack,” the statement read.

The authorities of Venezuela announced that terrorists used explosive drones, attempting to kill the President of Venezuela.

The underground group Flannel Soldiers took responsibility for the assassination attempt and confirmed the use of drones and C4 explosives. Seven soldiers were injured. A video that appeared on the Internet had caught the moment when the explosion took place during Maduro’s speech. Presumably, the drone was destroyed at that very moment.

Maduro announced that the Venezuelan right-wing opposition and Colombian right-wing forces led by Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos are responsible for the assassination attempt.
