Naftogaz: Russia's Gazprom will pay Ukraine 3 times more 'than it can receive for the sale of its gas'

Gazprom will pay Ukraine 2-3 times more "than it can receive for the sale of its gas," to transport it through Ukraine, according to a Facebook post made by the Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) of Naftogaz, Yuriy Vitrenko, UNIAN reports.

Vitrenko reported that the price of gas for Ukraine will be calculated according to the German market. "For those who like to count who and how much will be paid, Gazprom pays us 2-3 times more for transit than it will be able to receive for selling its gas," he wrote.

The CCO of Naftogaz added that the interest on the company's claims to the Stockholm court, the decision on which will be made in February, "amounts to between $1 million and $3 million.”

The fact that the Stockholm Arbitration court ruled on the dispute between Naftogaz and Gazprom became known on December 22nd. Since the decision itself was not published, each side treats it as being in its favor.

So, Naftogaz stated that the court took its side, rejecting the Russian company’s "take or pay" claims for 2009 – 2017 for the amount of $56 billion and reducing the price of supplied gas by 27.4%, from $485 to $352 per thousand cubic meters. Gazprom stated that the court upheld most of its claims. So, the company states that the arbitration has obliged Naftogaz to pay $2 billion in arrears, as well as interest on the arrears. In addition, the Russian company added that Naftogaz had also been obliged to collect and pay for 5 billion cubic meters of gas per year.

The President of Ukraine congratulated the people of the country "with a victory over Gazprom" on the occasion of the Stockholm arbitration’s decision.
