European Commission to submit proposal on visa-free travel for Ukrainians in late April

The official representative of the European Commission, Margaritis Shinas, stated that the EC confirmed its intention to propose the introduction of a visa-free regime with Ukraine to the European Parliament and the EU Council. “Last month, the President of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, announced that visa-free proposals will be filed this month,” the representative of the European Commission said.

On the 17th of March, Juncker stated that the progress towards reforms and recent steps taken by Kiev allow the European Commission to approve the recommendations on the liberalization of the visa policy for Ukraine with the EU countries. On the 18th of December 2015, the European Commission confirmed the readiness of Ukraine for the abolition of visas to enter the EU.

The EC gave a positive assessment of the report on the implementation of the Action Plan on the liberalization of visa policies with the European Union. The document indicates that the European Commission will make a legislative proposal concerning amendments to the EC Regulation in early 2016. The European Parliament and the EU Council should adopt the recommendations of the European Commission.
