Kremlin: Russia will not allow the U.S. to control its ports

The Chairman of the International Committee of the Russian Duma, Leonid Slutsky, has stated that Moscow would not allow Washington to control Russian ports.

According to Interfax news agency, the senator called the bill passed by the U.S. House of Representatives on strengthening trade sanctions against North Korea , which stipulates a demand for control of Russian ports in the Far East, “outrageous”.

He called the document a violation of the principles of international law, and a gross interference in the affairs of sovereign states at the legislative level.

Slutsky believes that U.S. congressmen clearly consider the U.S. “the only pole of the world order in the 21st century”.

He stressed that Russia will not allow anyone to interfere in its affairs, nor allow anyone control of its ports in the Far East or in any other region of the country.

The head of the Committee recalled that Russia supported all UN resolutions on the North Korean problem, and is in a position to control their execution itself.

On May 4, the House of Representatives of the U.S. Congress passed a bill on strengthening sanctions against North Korea. It proposes to take on special control the ports of Vladivostok, Nakhodka and Vanino in order to ensure that they are carrying out the sanctions regime. The document also instructs the U.S. President to send reports to Congress on ports and airports that violate the UN Security Council resolutions on Pyongyang.
