Poroshenko: Russia is the Main Military Threat to Ukraine

At a meeting of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine (NSDC), the President of Ukraine said that there is a need to establish a system of cybersecurity in Ukraine, and also reported on an agreement with foreign partners on the joint production of weapons.

Poroshenko said that Russia is the main military threat to his country. "In a long-term historical perspective the main military threat to Ukraine is Russia and, unfortunately, they will be the aggressor country," the Ukrainian President said at a meeting of the NSDC of Ukraine on Wednesday, January 27th.

The President noted that in this context the new military-administrative division plays an important role in Ukraine. The new division was approved at a recent meeting of the NSDC. According to the press service of the Council, the new military-administrative regulation, "determines the division of the territory into military and administrative areas taking into account the interests of national defense."

Cybersecurity and Production of Weapons

Poroshenko also talked about the need to create a national system of cybersecurity, noting that the interaction of different departments within such a system should work, "assisted by the funds provided by the special NATO trust fund." The strategy for the cybersecurity of Ukraine was considered at the meeting, taking into account the "aggressive actions of the Russian Federation," the press service of the National Security Council reported.

In addition, the UNIAN news agency reported that the President said that he and foreign partners have reached an agreement on the joint production of modern weapons in Ukraine. Press Secretary for the President, Svyatoslav Tsegolko, in turn, wrote on Twitter, that at the meeting the President "stressed the need to produce missiles and ammunition in Ukraine."
