Russia is preparing to test new missile defense system

The Chief of the Combat Logarithms and Programs unit of the Missile Defense Division of the Russian Aerospace Forces, Ilgar Taghiyev, stated that tests of a new missile defense system, which will be built in Russia, will be conducted in the coming two to three years, RBC reported. The tests will be conducted at the Sary Shagan testing range. According to Taghiyev, the missile defense systems covering Moscow and the central industrial region will be fully updated within the same time frame.

The Russian Aerospace Forces stated that work towards the improvement of the technical characteristics of the missile defense system are currently underway. As Taghiyev noted, the second-generation missile defense system is currently in the service of the Russian Armed Forces. The beginning of the development occurred in 1980-1990’s.
