Russian media: Russia deploys radars capable of detecting cruise missiles for thousands of kilometers

The Russian Ministry of Defense stated that it is deploying groups of unique Voronezh VP radar units capable of detecting cruise missiles from a distance of several thousands of kilometers, the newspaper Izvestiya writes.

According to the newspaper, regular radars can only detect cruise missiles from several tens of kilometers away.

The Voronezh VP, once it detects targets, will transmit their coordinates to S-300V, S-400 and in future S-500 “Prometheus” surface-to air missile systems.

The group of unique radars will be deployed at the base with already operational Voronezh missile strike early warning stations. In order to upgrade the current radars, all that is necessary is to add an additional antenna, and to assemble several modules of the new equipment.

Currently there are radar stations of the Voronezh type operating along the entire perimeter of Russia.
