Putin gives a raise to the Prosecutor General and to the Head of the Russian Investigative Committee

Russian President Vladimir Putin gave a 4% salary increase to Prosecutor General Yury Chaika and Head of the Investigative Committee Alexander Bastrykin. The relevant decrees are published on the legal information website and take effect on January 1, 2018.

According to a declaration that Bastrykin published in May, in 2016, the Head of the Investigative Committee earned 7.9 million rubles or $136,986 while in 2015 he earned 8.4 million rubles or $145,656. His wife’s declared income in 2016 was just over 4 million rubles or about $69,360 but in 2015, she earned more than 3.8 million rubles or $65,892.

The couple owns a 224-square-meter apartment as well as two summer cottages that are 294 square meters and 138 square meters, the declaration stated.

Chaika earned 9.3 million rubles or $161,262 in 2016, according to his declaration. In 2015, the Prosecutor General received 8.8 million rubles or $152,592. The income of his wife in 2016 amounted to 8.3 million rubles or $143,922 USD, and in 2015 it was 7.6 million rubles or $131,784).
