Turkey establishes new observation point in northern Syria

The Turkish Armed Forces have established a ninth observation point in the de-escalation zone in the Idlib province in northern Syria, Anadolu reports.

On the morning of April 7, a convoy of 100 vehicles passed through the town of Sarmada while heading towards Maarrat al-Nu’man and then towards Khan Shaykhun. The town of Morin in the north of the Hama province became the convoy’s stationing point.

Another of the Turkish Armed Forces’ observation points is located 88 kilometers from the Syrian-Turkish border.

Bashar al-Assad’s forces and pro-Iranian volunteer regiments have positions three kilometers from the observation point.

The deployment of the Turkish contingent in the de-escalation zone in Idlib began on October 12. This process was preceded by a reconnaissance operation, which lasted from October 8-11.

The mission for monitoring the decline in tension, comprised of the guarantor states (Turkey, Russia and Iran), was established on the basis of agreements reached in Astan.

Turkish Armed Forces will be deployed at 12 points outside the de-escalation zone in Idlib, and Russian forces will be placed on the external perimeter.
