Ukrainian President calls on militarily reservists 'to be ready'

The Ukrainian President, Petro Poroshenko announced that the preparatory work will begin with those who are in the First Military reserve.

“The decision does not mean immediate mobilization, but the appropriate work will be carried out with those who are in the First Reserve. I appeal to you, respected veterans, be ready. We must as quickly as possible take all the necessary measures to protect our nation,” said Poroshenko at a meeting of the National Security and Defense Council on Sunday.

At an emergency meeting on Monday, the Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) decided to enact Martial law in the country for 60 days. The decision still has to be approved by the Verkhovna Rada.

On Sunday, three Ukrainian Navy ships were seized by Russia in the Kerch Strait. 26 Ukrainian sailors were detained. Six sailors were injured.
