Ukrainian President Poroshenko met with US special representative Volker to discuss situation in Donbas

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko met with the US special representative for Ukraine Kurt Volker, reported the press service of the Ukrainian President.
During the meeting, the parties coordinated further steps to strengthen the international presence in the Donbas, both within the Normandy format, and at international organizations, primarily at the UN Security Council.
Also, Poroshenko and Volker discussed the security situation in the region and noted the importance of implementing the Minsk agreements, especially with regard to the ceasefire, the withdrawal of Russian troops and military equipment from Ukraine.
It was noted that special attention was given to the issue of the release of the Ukrainian prisoners, which are illegally kept on territory uncontrolled by Ukraine and in Russian prisons.
The President of Ukraine handed the appeals of the members of the families of hostages to the US representative and expressed his hope for his effective support, primarily in contacts with the Russian side with the goal of early release of hostages and their return home.
It was noted that Volker highly appreciated the adoption of the law “On creating the necessary conditions for a peaceful settlement of the situation in separate territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions of Ukraine”. He pointed out that this decision is a clear signal in support of the true devotion of the Ukrainian side to a peaceful settlement.
The Verkhovna Rada Speaker Andriy Parubiy during the meeting with Volker noted the importance of strengthening anti-Russian sanctions in the energy sector.
