Ukrainian state border guards refused thousands of dollars in bribes in 2017

Officers of the State Border Guard Service, during 2017, have been offered over UAH 1 million ($35,440 USD) in bribes, which they turned down, the press service of the State Border Guard reported.

“Last year officers of the State Border Guard Service completed and filed with the National Police more than a thousand crime alerts under article 369 of the Penal Code (offering, promising, or rendering unlawful benefits to an official),” the statement read.

In 2018, the first attempt to bribe border guards was recorded on January 7th at the Bachevsk border crossing checkpoint.

“Two citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan offered a bribe of UAH 1,850 ($66 USD) to officers of the Sumy border guard unit to not charge them with an administrative offense under Section 2, Article 203 of the Penal Code of the Administrative Offense (foreign citizens and individuals without citizenship breaking the laws on staying and moving through Ukraine),” the state agency said in the statement.
The transgressors were handed over to the police.
