International Olympic Committee prohibits fans from using Russian flag during the games

The Chief Editor of the sports broadcast of Russian Channel One, Vasily Konov, indicated that fans will be prohibited from bringing flags of the countries who are not participating in the Olympic Games into the games, as he wrote on his Twitter page. "Russia will not participate in the Olympic Games. That is, formally, the Russian flag is also banned at all facilities of the Games,” he wrote.

The users of the social network reacted strongly against this information. Russian users offered to bring the Serbian flag, which is identical to the Russian one but with the colors arranged conversely.

Konov also said that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) did not allow the displaying of flags of non-existent countries. Thus, Russians’ plans to perform under the flag of the USSR also failed.

On 5 December the IOC suspended Russia from the games in Pyeongchang. The athletes that will be allowed to participate at the Olympics by the IOC will represent "Olympic athletes from Russia."

As was earlier reported, athletes from the Russian Federation planned to come to the Olympic Games with the USSR flag.
