Armenia is ready to adhere to an OSCE-monitored ceasefire in Nagorno-Karabakh

The Press Service of the Armenian Defense Ministry announced on Friday that Armenia is ready to respect the Nagorno-Karabakh ceasefire, if Azerbaijan responds positively to the call of the Personal Representative of the OSCE Chairman, Andrzej Kasprzyk, reported Interfax-Ukraine.

"Answering the call of the Personal Representative of the OSCE Chairman we claim that the Armenian Armed Forces are ready to strictly comply with the ceasefire on the borders of Armenia and will not take any steps that may lead to an increase in tension of the armed conflict,” the Press Service said. However, the Defense Ministry of Armenia stressed that Armenia will accept it "with one condition: if the Azerbaijan Armed Forces also give a positive answer to this call.”

Previously, Kasprzyk called upon Armenia and Azerbaijan to strictly adhere to the agreements of the ceasefire on the eve of the holidays of Novruz Bayram and Easter.

Kasprzyk has monitored the situation on the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan. "Both sides noted the proximity of villages to the front line. The civilians suffered from the breach of the ceasefire,” he claimed.

"In the light of the upcoming holidays of Easter and Novruz Bayram, I urge the parties to strictly adhere to the ceasefire and avoid any action on the front line or at the border that could increase tensions. I would like to take this opportunity to wish them a good holiday and to wish the peoples of the region all the best," Kasprzyk said.
