Ukrainian Ministry of Internal Affairs calls for blocking of social networks Vkontakte and Odnoklassniki

Advisor to the Ministrer of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Zoryan Shkiryak called for the blocking of the social network sites Vkontakte (InContact) and Odnoklassniki (Classmates) in the country’s territory. It is necessary to block these sites because they are “completely controlled and run by the Russian Secret Service,” he said on Thursday, February 16 at a briefing in Kyiv.

Shkiryak noted that the Russian Secret Service creates groups with “eloquent sounding patriotic names,” which do the bidding for the FSB in spreading information that will undermine the Ukrainian state.

The advisor to the Minister of Internal Affairs also expressed hope that the Ministry of Education in Ukraine would, through teachers, explain to children the dangers of Vkontakte and Odnoklassniki. Zoryan Shkiryan is determined that this year will be “the year of protecting the information space in Ukraine from the influence of Russian propaganda.”
