The Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine reveals plans to regain control over the Donbas

Ukrainian Minister of Internal Affairs Arsen Avakov said that Kyiv has a plan to regain sovereignty over the Donbas. "We have a very specific plan with regard to the Donbas, which has nothing to do with the concessions to Putin's regime," the head of the Interior Ministry of Ukraine stated in an interview with TSN news program on Sunday evening, February 26, Deutsche Welle reported.

The Minister added that the strategy will be implemented if Russia, "under the pressure from the West" shows willingness to find a real resolution to the situation. Avakov added that presently, this issue could be solved "quickly and by diplomatic means" but not through military force.

The minister also spoke of the appropriateness of a partial trade ban with the eastern territories beyond Ukraine’s control. Kyiv still has to deliver coal to the Donbas, as well as steel products necessary to keep the plants functioning. He explained that spare parts for the repair of mining equipment and mine shaft elevators as well as connecting material should be allowed through into the west. “Everything else should be prohibited,” Avakov said.
