Ukrainian President negotiates weapons supply agreement while visiting Kuwait

The Ukrainian Presidential Press Service has reported that President Petro Poroshenko signed an intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in the military and other spheres during his visit to Kuwait.

The conclusion of the agreement will create a legal framework for the implementation of cooperation between the two states in the defense sphere.

The parties agreed in particular on the mutual exchange of intelligence and other specialized information; cooperation between the countries’ defense-industrial complexes; the supply of weapons, military equipment and other military products; and the servicing, repairing and modernizing of military machinery and equipment.

"I think that this is a new chapter in relations between Ukraine and Kuwait," Poroshenko stressed.

He noted that the current visit is the first in fifteen years.

"You know how important defense cooperation is for us now. We took a large step forward when the Agreements on military-technical cooperation and on the exchange of sensitive information were signed," the President said.

According to Poroshenko, a delegation from Ukroboronprom met with the Chief of the General Staff in Kuwait several months ago to develop very important areas for military-technical cooperation.

Another agreement was also reached during the visit, to simplify the visa regime on the basis of reciprocity and to include Ukraine in the list of countries whose citizens can be issued visas upon arrival in Kuwait or electronically.
