Russia demands that the US withdraw from Syria
Russia demanded that the United States leave the area of the Al-Tanf military base in southern Syria, reports RIA Novosti , citing Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin.
"I speak about territory with a diameter of 55 km. Also, it is the Syrian territory, and the US military is located there illegally. They are blocking the road that connects Iraq and Syria. We consider their presence illegal and demand that such occupation be stopped," said Vershinin.
In mid-October, the US announced the withdrawal of part of its military forces from Syria. According to the American President Donald Trump, a small garrison will remain in Syria in Al-Tanf military base to fight against the remnants of the Islamic State terrorist group.
The withdrawal of 1,000 US soldiers and officers from northern Syria will take several weeks. The American military will be transported through Iraq to Kuwait or Qatar.
