Russia releases Ukrainian military serviceman previously detained in Moscow

Former military serviceman Oleh Nehoda, who participated in the Ukrainian military operation in the Donbas, returned to Ukraine after his detention in Moscow.

The Ukrainian National News agency wrote that on December 25, Nehoda was detained at the Kyiv railway station in Moscow four minutes after leaving the Chisinau-Moscow train. Two men in civilian clothes approached him, flashed certificates that the former Ukrainian military man could not see, and asked that he come with them.

Shortly afterwards, the men covered Nehoda’s head with a sack and took him away to an unknown location where they held him for several days.

"They did not beat me. They gave food. Twice, they even provided a mobile phone so that I could call friends and relatives.” On January 2, at about 10 am, they put a sack on his head again and drove him to the station. There, they returned his money, mobile phone, gold chain and ring.

At the Ukrainian border, Nehoda answered the questions of the border guards before he was allowed to return home. Nehoda said that he is ready to provide explanations about his detention to Ukrainian law enforcement and journalists.

The last known information about Nehoda prior to his release was that he had gone to Saratov to see his sister.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine appealed to its Russian counterpart with a request to confirm and clarify the circumstances of Oleh Nehoda’s detention. Later the Security Service of Ukraine officially confirmed his detention in Moscow.
