US Congress approves allocation of $ 250 million for Ukraine’s defense and security in 2019

The House of Representatives of the US congress supported the allocation of $ 250 million to assist Ukraine to enhance security in 2019, announced the press service of the Ukrainian Embassy in the United States.

“The House of Representatives of the US Congress approved the draft on “the US National Defense Appropriations Act 2019”. The amount of funds allocated to the US Department of Defense to provide security assistance to Ukraine is estimated at $ 259 million, $ 50 million of which is to be directed towards lethal weapons”, the statement said.

The document includes the basic provisions on the draft bill about the cybersecurity cooperation with Ukraine, which provides assistance to Ukraine in boosting its own capabilities to protect against cyberattacks.

In particular, the State Department was instructed to report to the Congress on the state of cooperation with Ukraine in the field of cybersecurity with a view to finding new directions for such support.

The draft of the US National Defense Appropriations Act 2019 will have to be approved by the Senate and signed by the US President.

Earlier in July, the US allocated $ 200 million to Ukraine for strengthening security and defense in 2018.
