Ukraine plans to buy large batch of lethal weapons from the US

Former Ukrainian Ambassador to the United States Valery Chaly said that Ukraine is actively working on a contract to purhase of a large batch of lethal weapons from the United States. The contract can be concluded and implemented this year, reports Ukrinform news agency.

"We expect that this year a large project for the purchase of lethal defensive weapons will be completed," he said.

Chaly noted that the progress towards the conclusion of such a large-scale contract was made possible "thanks to the US trust in Ukraine, which was not at the same level in 2015." Another reason for that are the changes in Ukrainian legislation, which reformed the procurement process. One of them is the possibility of direct purchase of weapons by the Ukrainian Defense Ministry from foreign sellers, especially from the United States, as 92% of all military-technical assistance that Ukraine has received since 2014, came from the United States.

Earlier, it was reported that since the beginning of the hostilities in the Donbas Armed Forces of Ukraine received almost ten thousand units of military equipment from the United States.
