On Saturday, October 27, Marie Jovanovic, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States to Ukraine visited Berdyansk together with other American diplomats where they inspected Navy ships and defense facilities, reported the press service of the Naval Command of Ukraine.

The head of the US mission discussed with the Ukrainian Naval Commander Admiral Ihor Voronchenko security in the region and priorities of further cooperation. After examining the Azov-Sea-based vessels, the diplomats visited the Marine Corps permanent bases in Zaporizhia.

“The USA supports the right of the Ukrainian Navy to work freely in Ukrainian waters in the Sea of Azov,” the US Embassy stated on Twitter.

At a meeting on September 6, the National Defense and Security Council of Ukraine adopted a set of measures directed at the protection of national interests in the southern regions, waters of the Azov and Black Seas.  In accordance with these plans, Ukraine strengthened her Azov-focused armed forces. There, a naval ship-boat group was created, the relevant infrastructure is being developed and the coast guard was provided with the newest high-precision weapons.
