Ukrainian President Zelensky may visit the US after Ukrainian parliamentary elections

Valeriy Chaly, the Ukrainian ambassador to Washington, believes that Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky could visit the US and meet with Donald Trump after the early parliamentary elections to be held on July 21, reports Ukrinform.

“The President of Ukraine received an invitation from the President of the United States Donald Trump which sends a clear message. I really like its content, including the discussion of the strategic partnership, the President and the United States’ support for Ukraine and an invitation to visit the White House,” said Chaly on the sidelines of Ukrainian Days in the US Congress,.

He specified that this would happen in the next few months.

“We hope that this would take place immediately after the elections. We are in the middle of an electoral process, but after the elections, I hope that without delay, in August - it depends on the schedule of the President of Ukraine who is obviously very busy - we will attend this important meeting in Washington” - noted Chaly.

However, the Ukrainian diplomat stressed that not only the date, but also the substance of the negotiations is important.

“We have a lot to discuss, we have something to offer the US and the US has something to offer us,” added Chaly.

He also noted that the Embassy of Ukraine to the United States, in collaboration with the Foreign Ministry of Ukraine and the Presidential Administration, are already working on organizing “a meaningful visit to the United States”.

In early June, Trump invited Zelensky to visit Washington for an official visit.

Earlier, US representative to Ukraine Kurt Volker said that negotiations with Zelensky are on the White House agenda, but it has not been revealed what format they will take.
